Vestry

The Bylaws of All Saints Church define the role of the Vestry as follows:

“The Vestry, which shall include the Rector, shall be responsible for establishing, refining, communicating and defending the mission and values of All Saints. It shall be the duty of the Vestry to provide for whatever may be necessary for the celebration of worship and the encouragement of the ministries of All Saints, including all things necessary to support the worship and ministry of the Church, including buildings, offices and facilities as necessary.

“The Vestry shall be formed from individuals who are actively involved in the implementation of All Saints’ stated mission and values.Vestry members shall commit themselves to personal and spiritual accountability to one another and to God. Serving as a member of the Vestry shall be viewed as a spiritual and serious matter and the members of the Team shall be expected to order their lives and their work in accordance with the Leadership Covenant of All Saints. In addition, members of the Vestry shall earnestly and prayerfully seek God’s will with regard to the making of all decisions.”

Steve and Sally Breedlove

After over 20 years of pastoral ministry in nondenominational churches in the U.S. and Canada, plus over three years as a full-time missionary training pastors in Europe and Asia, the Lord wonderfully led us back into pastoral ministry with the Anglican Mission in America in 2005. The story of God’s dramatic leading can be found here.

We are grateful to be in the midst of the growth and development of a local parish that has a passionate commitment to prayer, authentic worship, spiritual transformation, and genuine community. We are also grateful to be part of a group of people committed to representing Christ with integrity as agents of his kingdom here in the Chapel Hill/Durham area.

We are blessed with a large and growing family. Kent and Melissa still live in Calgary, Canada, where he is a lawyer.  Joseph and Maggie will soon be joined by their third child.  Ellen lives in Raleigh, where she is the administrative manager of a restaurant. Steven, a high school principal, is married to Courtney, and they live in Asheville with their sons, Steven and Samuel. Millie, James, and Elijah live in Raleigh: she is a nanny, a caterer, and a harpist.  Thomas is a junior at UNC–Chapel Hill studying creative writing.

Sally is both a published author and a frequent speaker at women’s conferences, but her greatest passion in ministry is helping women of all ages develop large, spacious hearts where God is at home, and where they are at home with him (www.sallybreedlove.com). Steve brings a commitment to biblical preaching, praying, sensing God’s vision, and developing and equipping leaders for the Lord's ministry.  Steve loves strategic planning, mentoring younger men, and building a climate for authentic relationships.

Wesley and Jan Burks

Our family moved to Chapel Hill in the summer of 2003 after spending the previous eighteen years in Little Rock. While in Little Rock, we were part of a small group which became St. Andrew's Church, a member of the AMiA. We began attending Church of the Apostles in Raleigh after moving to North Carolina and from that congregation became a part of the small group which is now All Saints Church.

We have three children, Chris at Davidson College, Sarah at Duke University, and Collin, a freshman in high school. Wesley is a pediatric allergist and immunologist at Duke University, and Jan is a part-time staff attorney with a federal agency in Raleigh.

During our time with St. Andrew's in Little Rock, we were engaged in small group leadership and with local outreach and hope to continue with these ministries at All Saints Church.

Jim and Karen Lamont

We moved to the Chapel Hill/Durham area in 1983. Since that time we have raised three children and rooted for three NCAA national basketball championships. Our daughter Kylan lives in Charlotte and works as a Private Financial Advisor for BB&T. Bren, our oldest son, is a sophomore at UNC–Wilmington, and Kip is a senior at Pace Academy in Chapel Hill.

Having come to faith in Christ while involved in an Episcopal church over 30 years ago, we have hungered for a church in this area that offered a rich liturgical style of worship that is reverent and biblically sound. Our prayers were answered in 2001 with the launching of Church of the Apostles in Raleigh, the first AMiA plant in this area. It has been even more exciting to see God knit together a community of like-minded believers that he has called to launch All Saints Church.

Our prayer is that All Saints Church will present the Gospel clearly and effectively and that we as a body will demonstrate that Christ is alive and well in this community.

Bill and Maryann Roper

We are a 31-year story of a mixed marriage—Bill from Alabama and conservative Protestantism, and Maryann from New Jersey and Roman Catholicism—and we feel very blessed to be a part of the launch of All Saints Church.

Bill is dean of the UNC School of Medicine and CEO of UNC Health Care, and Maryann is a former pediatric oncologist, full-time mom, and part-time botanical illustrator and calligrapher.

Our son Will is 20 and is a junior at Wingate University.

We have been privileged to be members of several wonderful congregations, including the Falls Church in Virginia, the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, and, most recently, the Church of the Apostles in Raleigh. Bill has been in lay leadership positions and has taught Bible classes, Maryann has been involved in music and “miscellaneous,” and together we have led a small-groups ministry.

Nathan and Margaret Thielman

Inscribed in our wedding rings is John 1:16, “From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another,” and our lives have been marked time and again by God’s good grace. Each of us was raised in a Christian home and surrounded by godly role models, and we each committed our lives to Christ as children. We met as college students, have been married for 22 years, and are blessed with two children, MaryMac, a student at Wheaton College, IL,  and Hayes, a high school student at Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill. Nathan is a physician-researcher in Infectious Diseases and International Health at Duke University Medical Center, and Margaret is a homemaker.

Residents of Durham, we have been members of All Saints Church since 2005. God continues to bless us beyond measure, and we are particularly grateful for the community of believers that God is calling together to worship, to love, and to serve at All Saints Church.

Jennifer and Ralph Ennis

We have spent 36 years as missionaries with the Navigators, ministering in various cities in the U.S. and overseas. Jennifer is a psychiatric nurse with a private counseling practice, and she is also a spiritual director. Ralph is an author, speaker, and researcher in the areas of intercultural decision-making and communicating the gospel across generations and cultures.

Southern boy from coastal North Carolina meets and marries North Dakota farm girl…so began our story 38 years ago.  Four married children and twelve grandchildren later, we continue to be amazed at God’s love and faithfulness in the midst of life. Our son David and his wife Anna live in Raleigh with their two children. Amy and her husband Ben, with their seven children, live in Sweetwater, TN.  Sarah and Jeremy and their three daughters live in Marion, NC, and Nathan and Kristen live in Charlotte with their four pets.

We have enjoyed worshipping and serving God in a variety of churches as we’ve moved over the years. We have been part of All Saints Church since 2005 and have been blessed to be part of seeing God faithfully bring together a varied community of people who love and worship him as we seek to grow and reach out to the world around us.

What deserves to hold the first place among the fruits of the Spirit if not love? Without love other virtues are not reckoned to be virtues. From love is born all that is good.
