As we all are actutely aware, living out our faith authentically
in our lives, our jobs, and in our culture presents many challenges. Yet it is something our Lord has called us to do! This class will examine various ways to understand and engage the culture in which we live. We will share from our own experiences and discuss pressing questions. We will look to Scripture for guidance. The class will be facilitated by Ralph Ennis with a variety of guest lecturers and speakers, discussing topics like poverty and social justice, racial reconciliation, modernity and postmodernity, art and storytelling, and much, much more.
Facilitated by Ralph Ennis.
Ralph Ennis has served with The Navigators since 1975 and currently on their National Training Team. His publications include: The Issue of Shame in Reaching People for Christ; Breakthru: Discover Your Spiritual Gifts; An Introduction to the Russian Soul; CONNECT Series and A Model for Research in Intercultural Decision Making. Ralph & Jennifer have been married for 35 years (in October) and have four married children and ten grandchildren.
Adult Class 2: Washing Up For Supper: Worship in the New Testament
What is genuinely Christian worship? As citizens of the Kingdom of God, how do we do it? In this 12 week class we will explore what the Scriptures teach about worship in the New Testament. By the end of the class, participants will have a deeper Biblical understanding of Christian worship, of the Kingdom, of Baptism, and of the Eucharist. But even more important than that, participants will be empowered to enter more deeply and more profoundly into worship at All Saints Church. Come prepared to think, search, ask and discover! Be sure to bring your Bible!
Co Teachers: Paul Marvin and John Ellison.
Paul Marvin is a transplanted mid-westerner who has always been interested in the big questions. As a graduate student Paul studied Theology and Philosophy, and loves teaching the Bible and Christian Discipleship. Paul enjoys cooking, especially if it involves smoke and fire. He is married to his best friend (Sarah) --she laughs at all my jokes--and I really like my teenage daughters. For a while when I was a kid I wanted to be a professional bass fisherman, but now I'll settle for a quiet day hiking in the woods.
John Ellison is a native of Charlottesville, VA and dearly loves the Blue Ridge Mountains. He has two theological degrees, was ordained a Southern Baptist minister in 1986, and has pastored two churches. Having now become an Anglican (and soon to be an ordained Deacon), John can look back and see that his journey towards liturgical and sacramental worship began before he was even aware he was on it. He loves the continuing discovery of (and helping others discover) Christ in the Scriptures, and in His mysterious work of love and grace in our own souls and unfolding stories. Last but not least, John would like to get to 500,000 miles on his 1985 Volvo. (It has 335,000 now!)
Adult Class 3: Mother to Mother Connection
Learning to mother is one of those skills that can’t be learned by just reading a book. You learn it best by learning from and with other women. In Mother to Mother Connection different women from All Saints will address the challenges of mothering in a context of teaching and conversation. How do I shepherd my child spiritually? What do I do with my loneliness? How do I find contentment in this job that does not have clear boundaries and often goes unrecognized? How do I handle a challenging child? How do nourish my children’s minds and imaginations? How do I mother if I was never really mothered? How do I dance the dance between being a mother and a wife? Join us for conversation, connection and growth together.
Coordinating Facilitator: Sally Breedlove.
Sally Breedlove is a mother of five, who survived 20 years with at least one preschooler with her at all times. She brings to this class her own deep joy in what it has meant to mother these five, and the ones that have been added since. She also brings a bucketful of memories of the mistakes she has made along the way. More importantly, other women will help to lead the class, for mothering is best learned in the company of other mothers. Together we will share what we are still learning and encourage each other in the things that don't have easy answers.
Nursery: 0 - 3 Years
Children will be cared for by our nursery staff from 9 - 9:45. They will read Bible stories, do some simple activities, and play a lot. A morning snack will be provided. Please be timely in picking up your kids and checking in with them before the start of the worship service.
Preschool - 5th Grade: Lifted Hearts
Sing, Shout, Laugh, Dance, Create, Think, and Lift Up Your Hearts! This class is for children from preschool to 5th grade. There will be group worship times and small group break-outs featuring lessons, age-appropriate discussions, games, and prayer. Our desire is to see Christ form the lives of our children in joy and faith. We will be walking through the Biblical Narrative for the year, starting in Genesis. Warning! This is not childcare. This is intentional and thoughtful discipleship for our youngest members!
