The Mission of All Saints Church

To become and make disciples of Jesus Christ, people who worship God in spirit and truth, who grow together in mutual love and ministry, and who serve our community
in word and deed.

The task and calling (mission) of All Saints comes directly from the words of Jesus Christ recorded in the Gospels.  Jesus calls us to follow him (Mark 1:17), a powerfully descriptive picture of a growing disciple.  A disciple of Christ is someone who is an active, authentic follower of Christ. And then, just before his ascension, Jesus makes it clear that this is not just his desire and concern for us, but it is his desire and concern for the entire world: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing then in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20).

So the mission of All Saints is not up for grabs.  It is becoming disciples and making disciples of Jesus Christ – full fledged, growing followers of our Savior!

But what is a disciple?

Although God’s will and ways touch every substantial arena of life – our personal relationship with God, what we believe, how we treat each other, our morals and ethics – Christ’s call to discipleship can be summed up three primary activities.  He calls his followers to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24), to grow together in mutual service and genuine love (John 13:34-35) and to bless our world with the words and deeds of love and life in Christ (Matthew 5:14-16; 1 Peter 3:8-17).

Therefore, our mission at All Saints is clear,

Worship               Grow Together                  Serve

Extensive documents that expand this core “DNA” were developed in the first months of our existence, entitled What We Believe (our convictions and commitments) and What We Do (our strategies and activities).  They are available to read online or in print at our church offices.

It is our prayer that God will grant us this privilege of fulfilling this mission and of becoming and making disciples of Christ.  We pray that the results will be evident in the Chapel Hill/Durham area and the world for years to come!

Our Vision

What do we dream about and pray about for the future?  What do we believe God would have us look like as we mature and grow?

The vision of All Saints Church is to be a growing Christian community that exists for the sake of others, a church that intentionally cultivates the work of Christ and the growth of his kingdom in our local community, our region and our world.

A resource church:

Has its eye firmly fixed on its community, on those whom it can love and serve for the sake of Christ.

Equips and supports people in their efforts to live for Christ in their neighborhoods, workplaces, schools and universities, in their families and among their friends.

Spawns new ministries and networks gifted servants with others who have similar dreams and callings, both here and beyond.

Raises up and encourages new church planters and new church plants.

Is an active participant with others who are doing the work of Christ in the world.

Is committed to equipping and training the next generation of Christian leaders for business, education, medicine, the civic arena, the family and the church.

Is not interested in numbers for numbers sake, but is firmly committed to be a true Christian community whose focus is nevertheless primarily upward, lovingly inward and robustly outward.
